Fraudsters sending emails with malicious attachments on behalf of Tax Service

A massive phishing campaign has been detected, carried out using the name of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.

The State Tax Service has issued a warning about this, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

It is noted that the scammers are sending emails claiming that there is an outstanding tax debt and demanding that it be paid immediately via the link provided.

Such messages have no connection to the State Tax Service of Ukraine and are an attempt at fraud.

The emails typically contain: a notice of “unpaid tax debt”; a call to urgently click on a link to “verify details” or “pay the debt”; the use of logos or visual styles similar to the official symbols of the State Tax Service; and fake sender addresses that mimic official domains.

The notice states that clicking on such links may result in the download of malicious software or the theft of confidential data.

The Tax Service emphasizes that it does not send demands for payment of tax debt via third-party links in emails.

The Tax Service urges citizens and businesses to be especially vigilant and follow basic cybersecurity rules:

- do not open emails from unknown or suspicious senders;

- do not click on links in questionable messages;

- do not download attachments from such emails;

- verify information exclusively through official State Tax Service resources;

- if in doubt, contact the Service’s official channels.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in late May, cybercriminals sent emails from various email addresses purporting to be from the National Bank of Ukraine, containing malicious attachments designed to gain remote access to computers.
