EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová stated that EU diplomats will not leave Kyiv following russia’s threats of “systemic strikes” and the aggressor state’s call for foreigners to leave the Ukrainian capital.
This is evident from her statement on Facebook.
"russia threatens diplomats and foreigners again, asking us to leave Kyiv. But we are not going anywhere! Today’s statement of the russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a masterpiece of hypocrisy," the post reads.
She noted that russia suddenly began “speaking the language” of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions after years of bombing residential buildings, museums, maternity wards, schools, and power plants.
"We understand exactly what this means. Russia wants fear. Panic. Isolation of Ukraine. It will not work. The EU is not going anywhere. We are staying in Kyiv. We are staying with Ukraine," she assured.
Maternova called threats against diplomats and international organizations not a sign of strength, but a sign of desperation.
"The more aggressive and threatening the Kremlin becomes, the more obvious it is that Putin’s regime understands: it will not be able to break Ukraine’s resilience or the support of its partners. Kyiv stands firm. Ukraine stands firm. And so do we," she concluded.
As a reminder, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor country, russia, announced the start of systematic strikes on defense enterprises, so-called “decision-making centers,” and command posts in Kyiv, prompting it to urge foreigners to leave the capital and residents of the capital to stay away from military and administrative infrastructure facilities.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Europe to respond “proportionately and forcefully” to russia’s threats.
