In May 2026, russian forces began deploying the new Geran-4 jet-powered strike drones against Ukraine. These drones can reach speeds of up to 500 km/h, have a range of up to 450 km, and were developed in response to Ukrainian interceptor drones.

The Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has reported this.

Serial production of these drones was completed by January 2026, and the first test launches were conducted from the Oryol Oblast and the territory of the former Donetsk airport.

The new jet-powered drone features a custom airframe with improved aerodynamic characteristics, a reinforced structure, and a turbojet engine with increased thrust. The wings are now fixed to the fuselage, and the number of access hatches on the fuselage has been reduced to minimize air resistance.

According to intelligence reports, the turbojet engines of the new drone are of Chinese origin. One of them—the Telefly TF-TJ2000A with a thrust of approximately 200 kgf—has previously been observed on the Geran-5.

The Defense Intelligence noted that the new design allows the aircraft to maneuver at speeds of 300 to 400 km/h and accelerate up to 500 km/h. The maximum flight altitude is up to 5,000 meters, and the range is up to 450 km.

According to intelligence reports, the Geran-4’s onboard control systems and electronic components remain similar to previous russian designs, particularly those manufactured by the Alabuga plant. The drone’s dimensions have remained virtually unchanged: approximately 3.5 meters in length and up to 3 meters in wingspan.

As a reminder, a few days ago, an online-controlled Shahed drone attacked a Ukrainian air defense facility.
