During the massive attack by the aggressor country, russia, on Kyiv, the main damage was caused by missiles, of which too many were launched for Ukraine’s air defense systems to handle. Serhii Beskrestnov (Flash), an advisor to the Minister of Defense, reported this on his Telegram channel on Sunday, May 24.

Beskrestnov summarized the consequences of the nighttime attack by russian terrorists. According to him, the Defense Forces intercepted 40% of the missiles, which is more than the average for the first half of the year. The occupiers relied on a massive barrage to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense. At the same time, the bulk of the damage was caused by missiles, of which there were too many for our air defense resources to handle, the Defense Minister’s advisor emphasized.

"I believe that the targets in Kyiv were chosen by the enemy solely as a pretext for striking the city. For example, the factory in Lukianivka, where missiles have long since destroyed everything possible over the years of the war, or the territory of the Ground Forces Command, where no one has been present since the first day of the war, just like at all similar facilities in Kyiv. I did not see anything technologically or tactically new in this attack," Beskrestnov wrote.

This time, there were no attempts to launch "suicide drones" from Belarus, perhaps because the entire strike was directed at Kyiv rather than the western part of Ukraine, Beskrestnov noted.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Air Forces shot down 55 enemy missiles and 549 drones during a large-scale nighttime attack.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry building was damaged by hostilities for the first time since World War II.

Russia also damaged the building of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
