The Ukrainian Armed Forces are achieving their objectives in the border areas of the Sumy Region and continue to actively eliminate russian occupiers’ personnel and equipment on other fronts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated this following a discussion of the situation on the front lines with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
The head of state noted the effectiveness and performance of Ukrainian units on this section of the front.
"We are achieving our objectives in the border areas of the Sumy region. We continue to destroy Russian personnel and the occupiers’ equipment in other sectors as well. I would especially like to thank our drone operators for their accuracy. Active operations are also ongoing, for which the paratroopers and assault troops deserve special mention," Zelenskyy emphasized.
In total, since the beginning of 2026, russian troop losses on the front have already exceeded 145,000. The number of occupiers eliminated stands at nearly 86,000, at least 59,000 have suffered serious injuries, and over 800 russian servicemen have been taken prisoner.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 20, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed countering possible russian offensive operations on the Chernihiv-Kyiv axis during a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
As a reminder, on May 18, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced the start of joint exercises with russia on the combat use of nuclear weapons and nuclear support.
