The Security Service of Ukraine’s military counterintelligence unit detained one of the FSB’s covert agents in Kyiv, whom the enemy intelligence service had kept on “standby” for 12 years. It was reported in a statement by the SSU.

The investigation revealed that since February of this year, he had been gathering coordinates for a targeted russian missile strike on Kyiv, including the residence of the head of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.

According to the case file, the FSB’s orders were carried out by an IT specialist from Mykolaiv who had been recruited by the enemy. Law enforcement officials established that russian intelligence officers had recruited him back in 2014 and “mothballed” him for future missions.

Recently, the russian special service “activated” the agent and instructed him to move to Kyiv to collect data on public figures against whom the aggressor state, the russian federation, was planning sabotage and terrorist attacks.

Well-known politicians and representatives of Ukraine’s security and defense leadership were “in the crosshairs” of the enemy.

According to FSB instructions, the agent was to track the addresses and travel routes of potential “targets” and report this information to his handler in moscow.

To carry out the hostile mission, the perpetrator made new acquaintances, whom he then covertly used to obtain intelligence.

Very often, the perpetrator operated under the guise of providing private services for the administration and maintenance of computer systems. He would then extract the “necessary” information under the pretext of casual conversation.

Later, he recruited another IT specialist—a resident of Odesa—to join his subversive activities.

Together with his “colleague,” they created an entire network of informants who “leaked” data on the deployment of Ukrainian troops.

"SSU officers detained the agent in a rented apartment in Kyiv. At the same time, his accomplice was detained in Odesa. During searches, smartphones containing evidence of work for the FSB were seized from the detainees," the Security Service reported.

Security Service investigators charged them with treason committed under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The suspects are in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Security Service dismantled another scheme to evade mobilization in the Kyiv Region. Following comprehensive operations in the capital region, a criminal group was neutralized that, for money, “booked” draft dodgers or illegally smuggled them out of Ukraine.
