Syrskyi explains whether demobilization is possible during war

Main points
  • Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that it is impossible to fully demobilize troops during wartime.
  • According to Syrskyi, the mobilization system must strike a balance between the army’s needs and the exhaustion of the troops.
  • According to the Commander-in-Chief’s order, service on the front lines should not exceed two months.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that, given the full-scale war and ongoing mobilization, a complete demobilization of troops is currently impossible. At the same time, the Armed Forces are working on mechanisms that will allow soldiers to receive leave and deferrals after prolonged service on the front lines.

He spoke about this in an interview with Militarnyi.

According to Syrskyi, the mobilization system must strike a balance between the needs of the army and the exhaustion of soldiers who have been in the combat zone for a long time.

"On the one hand, there is a war and we are conducting mobilization; on the other hand, this mobilization must have some logical conclusion. People who are fighting, especially for a long time, must have a way out and the opportunity to receive a deferment depending on the length of time they have spent on the battlefield," the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.

He also noted that work is currently underway on new approaches to providing military personnel with opportunities for rest without compromising the country’s defense capabilities.
