The head of the Explosives Service Department of the National Police, Volodymyr Khomenko, is confident that explosives will still be found in Ukraine 50 years after the end of the war.

He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian News Agency.

"Currently, we have very dangerous places where there were hostilities, where there were enemy strongholds, where there were our strongholds. In such places, there is a very large concentration of ammunition that did not explode. There is nothing to compare it to, because there has not been such a scale of hostilities since the Second World War," Khomenko said.

At the same time, the main places where there were the most explosives have long been cleared. "We took direct part in this. During the day we took 1-2 trucks out of there. Now in the same places you can find single ammunition, but they will be found there even in 50 years. Because we still find ammunition from the First World War or the Second World War. They will be found in the same way. Especially if it is in the forest, where the explosives are already covered with layers of leaves, grass and whatever. It is unrealistic to find anything there now," emphasized the chief explosives engineer of the National Police of Ukraine.

The territory most littered with explosives is where the most stable line of contact was or is. That is, these are frontline areas.

"The more stable the area was, for example, Chasiv Yar, the more there will be littering with explosives. The more problematic the restoration of this region, the restoration of agriculture in this region will be," Khomenko said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, over the three years of war, 355 Ukrainian civilians, including 18 children, were killed by russian explosive devices.
