A new thematic exposition dedicated to owls of Ukraine has appeared in the Kyiv Zoo. The new aviary was set up by zoo specialists themselves in the area near a chalk lake with flamingos and bison.
What birds have settled in the new aviary
The new space is home to five species of owls: the gray owl, the long-eared owl, the long-tailed owl, the eagle owl and the barn owl.
The zoo noted that two of these species are particularly rare and are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.
"Two of them are particularly rare, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, and are participants in the breeding and release program into the wild," the Kyiv Zoo reported.

Some of the birds were previously rescued, after which they were given shelter in the capital's zoo.
What the new space was made of
The total area of the new aviary is 180 square meters, and its height is about five meters.
For owls, the aviary recreated a natural environment with hollows-hidings, branches, stumps, feeding areas and special additives.
"For the birds, it recreated a cozy natural environment, comfortable for their secret life," the zoo noted.
Drinking fountains and ponds for birds to swim in are also being equipped in the space.
Kyiv Zoo reminded of the importance of owls
The zoo emphasized that owls are an important part of Ukraine's natural ecosystem.
"Owls are an important part of Ukraine's ecosystem, and we are happy to serve the good cause of their preservation and restoration," Kyiv Zoo concluded.
We will remind you that a capybaras from the Kyiv Zoo was released into the summer enclosure.
