The russian army is changing its behavior in the airspace and is trying to use Ukrainian drones to put pressure on NATO countries. Instead of the usual shooting down of the devices, the occupiers are purposefully redirecting them towards the critical infrastructure and security facilities of neighboring European states. This is reported by the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, citing its own sources in the Alliance, Delfi reports.
According to intelligence, the Kremlin's current goal is not only to eliminate air targets, but also to inflict material damage on the territory of the Alliance for political blackmail. The russian military is trying to adjust the trajectory of Ukrainian UAVs so that they fall near European power grids, transport systems, and military bases in Finland and the Baltic states.
Due to the threat of such provocations, the Finnish armed forces have already officially increased their level of combat readiness. To protect the sky, the European military uses electronic jammers, the effectiveness of which is now being actively improved by integrating solutions based on artificial intelligence.
This situation is radically different from the recent incident in Greece, where a Ukrainian naval drone deviated from its route and sailed to foreign shores solely due to a technical malfunction. In the case of NATO's northern flank, we are talking about deliberate and controlled actions by russian electronic warfare units.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo previously stated that it is unacceptable for drones to violate their country's airspace.
Earlier, Ukraine apologized to the Baltic countries and Finland for Ukrainian drones entering their territory.
