In the Vatican, by decision of Pope Leo XIV, an interdepartmental commission has been created to coordinate the Catholic Church's approaches to the development and use of artificial intelligence.

This is reported by Vatican News.

The new body is formed from representatives of departments dealing with issues of integral human development, doctrine, culture and education, as well as communications. Members of the Pontifical Academy of Life, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences are involved in the work.

The Vatican noted that the creation of the structure is connected with the accelerated development of artificial intelligence technologies, their impact on society and the church's attention to the topic of human dignity.

The statement also indicated that the coordinating institution should ensure the exchange of information between participants, as well as the coordination of projects and policies related to AI, including its use within the Holy See. "The coordinating institution should promote cooperation and the exchange of information on activities and projects related to artificial intelligence," the message says.

Recall that earlier, Pope Leo XIV, during a closed meeting with the clergy of the Roman Diocese, called on priests to resist "the temptation to prepare sermons with the help of artificial intelligence."
