On the morning of May 16, in the village of Dubovoye near Belgorod, “fragments of ammunition” struck a private home, according to the regional operational headquarters. As a result of the incident, a civilian “died at the scene from his injuries.”
According to authorities, the house hit by the shell sustained damage to the roof, windows, utilities, and interior finishes.
It was reported by the russian publication The Moscow Times.
"A decision has been made to temporarily relocate residents of nearby buildings to a safe location due to the discovery of unexploded ammunition fragments. All emergency services are on the scene," the statement said.
According to "Pepel Belgorod," a russian FAB aerial bomb struck the building around 5:00 a.m. Afterward, authorities evacuated residents of two neighboring high-rise buildings. Local media outlets are publishing photos of the damaged two-story brick building, showing a hole likely caused by the shell’s impact.
Authorities have neither confirmed nor denied reports of the russian bomb strike. Meanwhile, incidents of such shells “accidentally falling” from russian aircraft have become widespread. According to Astra’s estimates, at least 24 russian aerial bombs have fallen on areas along the russian and occupied Ukrainian border since the beginning of the year, and there were 143 such incidents in 2025.
For instance, on March 15, a 500-kilogram FAB “malfunctioned” and fell from a russian aircraft directly onto the garden of a private home in the village of Luhanske in the “DPR.” Prior to this, two more russian FABs fell in the Belgorod Oblast—near the village of Nepkhaevo in the Yakovlevsky District and near the village of Sevryukovo outside Belgorod.
