Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa has resigned following an incident involving Ukrainian drones that were redirected by russia, the aggressor nation. Reuters reported this on Thursday, May 14.
Siliņa, who has been prime minister since 2023, stated that she is resigning but “is not giving up.” Prior to this, she had dismissed Defense Minister Andris Sprūds after russia used electronic warfare to deliberately divert Ukrainian drones off course and steer them toward Latvia. As a result, the drones struck empty oil storage tanks.
"The drones were not detected by the Latvian Army as they flew in from Russia, the army's head said, and Silina blamed Spruds for not having developed anti-drone systems fast enough," the article states.

As a reminder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would send experts to Latvia to help protect the country’s airspace.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 8, Ukraine apologized to the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Finland for the unintentional entry of Ukrainian drones into their territory.
