US President Donald Trump has begun an official visit to China and held a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in central Beijing.
The American leader arrived at Tiananmen Square, where he was personally met by Xi Jinping near the Great Hall of the People. The politicians shook hands and greeted members of the Chinese and American delegations, CNN reports.
After that, the official meeting ceremony began. The leaders walked along the red carpet to the accompaniment of ceremonial music, and an honor guard lined up near the Chinese parliament building.
Children with US and Chinese flags were also present at the ceremony, welcoming the delegations with flowers.
Trump is accompanied by key officials from his administration during the visit, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.
The American delegation is also joined by the heads of major technology companies, including Tim Cook and Jensen Huang.
The talks are expected to focus on international security, technology, trade and the situation around Iran. A cultural program and a state banquet are planned after the bilateral meeting.
