Germany and Ukraine are officially expanding their defense cooperation, focusing on the development and mass production of long-range unmanned systems. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced this during his visit to Ukraine, according to Suspilne.

According to him, the joint projects cover a wide range of weapons—from tactical drones with a range of up to 100 kilometers to strategic systems capable of striking targets at distances of up to 1,500 kilometers.

The head of the German Defense Ministry emphasized that the development of such technologies is critically important for defending Ukraine’s airspace and launching retaliatory strikes.

“The development of long-range drones is key to deterring Russian attacks on Ukraine’s military infrastructure,” Pistorius noted.

He also added that, if deployed on a large scale, such drones would be capable not only of destroying military targets but also of effectively neutralizing enemy air defense systems.

In addition to technical assistance, Berlin seeks deeper integration into Ukraine’s defense ecosystem, particularly through joining the Brave1 innovation platform. The German side is showing significant interest in Ukrainian combat management systems and the unique experience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Pistorius emphasized that Berlin will continue to develop the strategic partnership, as joint production will allow German technology to be combined with Ukrainian combat experience to effectively counter russian aggression.

As a reminder, the German Defense Minister arrived in Kyiv for talks on the defense industry.
