Main points
  • Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico conveyed to Volodymyr Zelenskyy vladimir putin's demand for a direct phone call.
  • The ceasefire was extended until May 11 for the work of diplomats.
  • Fico stressed the importance of dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow to stop the fighting.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, after his visit to Moscow, made a statement on a possible format for dialogue between Kyiv and the Kremlin. According to the Slovak politician, vladimir putin expects a direct phone call from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy if the Ukrainian side is really interested in holding talks to end the war.

Robert Fico said that during a personal meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Armenia, he received a signal from him about his readiness to meet with the russian dictator in any format. The Slovak Prime Minister conveyed this message to Moscow, but the russian side's response was quite specific.

"If the Ukrainian President is interested in a meeting, he should contact his russian counterpart by phone," Fico quoted putin's position.

In addition to discussing contacts between the leaders, Fico emphasized the importance of the ceasefire, which was extended until May 11. According to the Slovak Prime Minister, such pauses in hostilities are critically important for the work of diplomats. He emphasized that dialogue is "a thousand times more useful than mutual killing."

He emphasized Slovakia's interest in maintaining "standard and friendly" relations with the russian federation, calling it a "world power."

Recall, earlier there was information that putin was allegedly ready to meet with Zelenskyy in a third country, but put forward a number of preliminary conditions for this. So far, official Kyiv has not commented on Fico's statements regarding the need for a direct call to Moscow.
