The US's European allies predict new decisions by President Donald Trump regarding US troops in Europe. Among the possible scenarios is a reduction in the contingent in Italy and Spain.

This is reported by the Bloomberg agency portal.

According to sources of the publication, NATO countries expect a further review of the US military presence after Trump's decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany.

In addition, the Trump administration may abandon the plan approved during the presidency of Joe Biden to deploy long-range missiles in Germany.

According to Bloomberg, NATO is also discussing other possible scenarios - in particular, reducing US participation in military exercises in Europe and transferring some forces from countries that Washington considers "less loyal" to allies closer to the current administration.

Poland is among the countries that could receive an additional American presence. Warsaw has repeatedly stated its readiness to accept more US troops.

The Pentagon declined to comment on Bloomberg's information, and the White House referred journalists to the statements of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"If one of the main reasons why the United States is in NATO is to be able to have troops deployed in Europe that we could transfer to other emergencies, and now that is no longer the case, at least for some NATO members, then this is a problem - and it needs to be addressed," Rubio said during a visit to Italy.

Currently, about 85,000 US troops are deployed in Europe. Despite the fears of allies, some NATO diplomats believe that Trump's ability to make large-scale troop reductions may be limited by the US Congress and Washington's strategic interests in Europe.

"We will suffer no less, if not more, than the European countries that we would identify as targets of punishment if we try to significantly reduce our forces or presence," said Gordon Davis, a retired Army major general and former senior NATO official.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump earlier confirmed plans to reduce the US military presence in Germany. According to him, more than 5,000 US troops may leave Europe.
