On May 7, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a representative of the russian Embassy and handed him a note of strong protest regarding the brutal shelling of Ukraine, despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s initiative to cease fire starting May 6.

It was reported by the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The ceasefire, which was supposed to begin on May 6 at 12 a.m., was violated in less than 10 minutes; at 12:09 a.m., air raid sirens sounded in Ukraine," the ministry emphasized, recalling the russian shelling of Ukrainian cities on May 5 and 6.

The Lithuanian note states that through its actions, the russian federation has demonstrated that it is not interested in stopping the killing of innocent people or bringing military operations to an end as soon as possible.

"The Kremlin’s proposal for a ceasefire on May 8–9 is a formal and hypocritical step aimed at ensuring the possibility of holding a parade, rather than ceasing military operations and bringing the search for a solution to the conflict to the negotiating table," the Foreign Ministry added.

The note also reiterates the Republic of Lithuania’s demand that russia immediately cease its aggression against Ukraine, withdraw its occupation forces from all internationally recognized territory of Ukraine, and compensate for all damage caused to Ukraine as a result of russian aggression.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the russian side had not even made a token attempt to cease fire on the front lines and that Ukraine would respond in kind.

On May 6, Zelenskyy also stated that the russian side had violated the ceasefire declared by Ukraine effective May 6.
