President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the russian side had not even made a token attempt to cease fire on the front lines, and that Ukraine would respond in kind.
He made this statement on Facebook.
"There was not even a token attempt by the Russian side to cease fire on the front lines. As was the case yesterday, Ukraine will respond in kind today. We will defend our positions and the lives of our people," he emphasized.
The President also cited data indicating that russia, the aggressor state, did not observe the ceasefire. In particular, throughout the past night, the russian army continued to strike Ukrainian positions. As of 7 a.m., more than 140 attacks on positions at the front had already been recorded.
In addition, the russians carried out 10 assault operations overnight, most of them on the Sloviansk axis. They also launched more than 850 strikes using various types of drones, including attack drones. The use of reconnaissance drones in the skies over frontline communities also continued.
“Russia must end its war, and everyone will truly notice this when the movement toward peace begins,” the President added.
As a reminder, on May 6, Zelenskyy reported that the russian side had violated the ceasefire declared by Ukraine effective May 6. The initiated “silence regime” was supposed to begin on the night of May 5–6.
