The ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih Mining and Metallurgical Plant (Dnipropetrovsk Region) has announced the suspension of its mining and steelmaking operations due to disruptions in logistics services provided by JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

The company has said this in a statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The statement notes that over the past month, the company has effectively not received the necessary volumes of raw materials to ensure uninterrupted production, which has led to a reduction in its reserves to a critically low level.

Interruptions in the supply of fluxes are systematic in nature and are already threatening the stable operation of several key production units.

This has also caused a disruption in the company’s shipments of iron ore concentrate, leading to a halt in ore mining.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih CEO Mauro Longobardo stated that the situation is not the result of objective circumstances, but rather of inadequate planning and allocation of transport services by Ukrzaliznytsia.

"Ensuring stable supplies for one of the country’s largest industrial enterprises is not an overly difficult task, yet in practice, this is not happening. They simply fail to deliver this key component of iron casting production to us, without which we are unable to produce cast iron, which, as a result, has a serious impact on our entire value chain," Longobardo noted.

He also added that Ukrzaliznytsia is not providing trains to ship the produced concentrate, forcing the mining department to halt operations.

If supplies continue to be unavailable, the company will be forced to suspend operations at additional production units, including the second blast furnace, other sintering machines, and another ore processing plant, which will have an even more devastating impact on production performance.

The company noted that, against this backdrop, Ukrzaliznytsia continues to focus on raising tariffs, whereas the key priority should be ensuring the quality, timeliness, and reliability of transportation.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih expects Ukrzaliznytsia to take immediate action to stabilize supplies and restore predictability to logistics processes.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in late February, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih announced the forced suspension of production activities at its subsidiary, Casting and Mechanical Plant LLC (CMP).

In late January, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih announced the forced shutdown of its blooming shop in the second quarter of 2026.

In 2025, compared to 2024, the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih Mining and Metallurgical Plant (Dnipropetrovsk Region) increased steel production by 2.3% to 1.689 million tons.

The plant’s capacity is designed for an annual output of over 6 million tons of steel, over 5 million tons of rolled products, and over 5.5 million tons of pig iron.

95.1283% of the plant’s shares are owned by Mittal Steel Germany GmbH, a subsidiary of the international holding company ArcelorMittal.
