Russia attacks infrastructure, kills civilians and rescuers - UN Monitoring Mission

Rescuers and civilians have been killed in missile and drone strikes by the aggressor country of russia in Ukraine. This was stated in a message from the X-account of the Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) on Tuesday, May 5.

The HRMMU noted that on the night of May 4-5, missile and drone strikes took place throughout Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure.

"In the Poltava Region, strikes reportedly killed at least 4 people and injured 37. Rescue workers were among the victims when a second strike occurred in the same location as the first. Prior to this attack, HRMMU confirmed that at least 9 rescue workers had been killed in Ukraine and 109 injured in 2025 and 2026," the report said.

Over the past 4 days, russian long-range strikes have killed at least 18 Ukrainian civilians and injured another 130 in eight regions of Ukraine, the Mission said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 5 and 6, the Poltava Region declared a day of mourning for rescue workers and oil and gas company workers killed in a nighttime russian attack.
