Russia exhausting Ukrainian air defense with drone simulators - Air Force

Main points
  • According to Yurii Ihnat, head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the AFU, the russian occupiers are using false targets to overload the air defense system.
  • The fake drones do not have a warhead, but reproduce the flight parameters of real Shaheds.
  • The enemy uses these tactics to exhaust not only missile reserves, but also people, working around the clock.

The russian occupiers are increasingly using false targets in air attacks to overload the air defense system and exhaust the defenders of the sky. Yurii Ihnat, head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this during a telethon.

According to the spokesman, the simulator drones do not have a combat unit, but they reproduce the flight parameters of real Shaheds as accurately as possible - their speed and altitude. Thanks to special angular reflectors on radars, they look like a real threat, which forces the air defense to practice on each such target.

"They do not pose a particular danger, but they complicate the work of our air defense. The enemy is diverting forces and resources to overload the system. During the recent attack from the north, the russians used even more simulator drones than real strike UAVs," Ihnat noted.

In addition to using decoys, the enemy is modernizing its equipment, equipping drones with additional control and communication channels. The occupiers have also switched to the tactic of round-the-clock attacks, which can last for several waves during the day.

Yurii Ihnat emphasized that such actions are aimed at depleting not only missile reserves, but also people.

"Working 24/7 is very difficult. The enemy understands this, trying to put pressure on equipment and personnel to complicate the air situation in the country," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the russian federation attacked the Dnipropetrovsk Region with missiles and drones, there are injuries and infrastructure hits.

In Brovary, Kyiv Region, two civilians were injured as a result of a russian drone attack.
