The administration of Donald Trump has begun preparations for a possible defeat for the Republican Party in the midterm elections for the US Congress in the fall. This is reported by The Washington Post, citing government sources.

According to the publication, the White House legal department is holding closed briefings for politically appointed officials. They are being explained how to act in conditions of increased parliamentary control if the Democrats gain a majority.

In particular, officials are advised to be more careful with official correspondence and promptly respond to Congressional requests. The briefings last about 30 minutes and include presentations on parliamentary oversight mechanisms.

"It's clear to everyone that this is very likely... It was a serious conversation," said one of the officials who attended the meeting.
