Tomatoes continue to fall in price in Ukraine

Main points
  • The price of greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine has decreased by 10% in a week.
  • Local greenhouse plants offer tomatoes for UAH 130-160 per kilogram.
  • Tomatoes in Ukraine are now 73% more expensive than last year.

This week, greenhouse tomatoes continue to fall in price on the Ukrainian market.

This is stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that this situation is due to an increase in the volume of taking off in greenhouse farms almost throughout the country, as well as a decrease in demand for tomatoes.

In addition, stable supplies of vegetables from abroad continue to put additional pressure on prices.

As of the end of this working week, local greenhouse plants offer tomatoes at prices of UAH 130-160 per kilogram, which is on average 10% cheaper than at the end of the previous working week.

According to market participants, the supply of domestic products is gradually increasing, as more and more Ukrainian stationary greenhouse plants enter the active phase of selling this product every day.

However, despite the current price decline, greenhouse tomatoes in Ukrainian farms are currently on average 73% more expensive than in the same period last year.

It is noted that most market operators do not rule out a further decrease in tomato prices.

According to producers, if the current sales rates are maintained, they will be forced to continue to give in to prices in order to prevent the accumulation of unsold products in warehouses.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, last week, from April 20 to 26, a noticeable decline in prices for greenhouse tomatoes began in Ukraine, which was due to a seasonal increase in the supply of products from local greenhouses against the backdrop of subdued demand.
