By the end of the day today, April 30, US President Donald Trump is expected to receive a briefing from Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), on new plans for possible action against Iran.
The American publication Axios reported this, citing its own sources.
According to the publication, CENTCOM has prepared several options for action. The first involves a short but powerful series of strikes against Iran, including infrastructure targets. It is expected that these strikes will allow Trump to break the deadlock in the negotiation process.
Another plan focuses on seizing part of the Strait of Hormuz to open it up for commercial shipping. One of the publication’s sources said this option could involve the use of ground forces.
Another option, which was discussed earlier and may be presented to Trump at the briefing, is sending special forces to seize Iran’s stockpiles of enriched uranium.
Two Axios sources reported that Trump views a blockade of Iran as the primary lever of pressure on Tehran. At the same time, he is prepared to consider military action if the Iranian leadership refuses to make concessions.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, yesterday, April 29, the US Department of Defense’s Chief Financial Officer, Jules W. Hurst III, stated during a hearing in the House of Representatives that the war against Iran has already cost Washington USD 25 billion.
As a reminder, the day before, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the country’s military industry continues to operate nonstop, producing new missiles and drones. Previously, the US had repeatedly claimed that Tehran’s military stockpiles were depleted.
