Ukraine is preparing sanctions in response to Israel receiving grain from the occupied territories. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
"Based on information from our intelligence agencies, Ukraine is preparing a corresponding sanctions package that will cover both those who directly transport this grain and those individuals and legal entities who are trying to profit from such a criminal scheme. We will coordinate with our European partners to ensure that the relevant individuals are included in European sanctions regimes," he said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that purchasing stolen goods is an act that entails legal liability, and this applies, in particular, to grain stolen by russia.
"Another ship carrying such grain has arrived at an Israeli port and is preparing to unload. This is not and cannot be legitimate business. The Israeli authorities cannot be unaware of which ships and what cargo are arriving at the country’s ports. Russia systematically seizes grain from temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory and organizes the export of such grain by individuals linked to the occupiers. Such transactions violate the laws of the State of Israel itself. Ukraine has taken all necessary steps through diplomatic channels to prevent such incidents. However, we see that yet another such ship has not been stopped," he noted.
Zelenskyy instructed the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform all of the country’s partners about the situation.
He noted that Ukraine counts on partnership and mutual respect with every country and expects the Israeli authorities to respect Ukraine and refrain from taking steps that undermine bilateral relations.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine summoned the Israeli ambassador to deliver a note of protest in connection with the arrival at the Israeli port of Haifa of a second ship carrying grain stolen from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
