Ukrzaliznytsia has received the first six of 100 new passenger cars manufactured by the Kryukovsky Railway Car Building Works in 2026. Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba has announced this on Facebook on Monday, April 27.

The new cars have arrived in Kyiv and are being prepared for service on April 28. These are the first six cars out of 100 ordered in 2025 from the Kryukovsky Railway Car Building Works. Over 150 Ukrainian companies, including those from frontline and relocated regions, were involved in their manufacture. By the end of 2026, 60 cars will be ready.

"This is a large-scale fleet upgrade — 88 modern compartment cars, 7 inclusive cars for people in wheelchairs, and 5 new-generation cars with a service life extended by 20 years. They are equipped with air conditioning, batteries, and solutions and amenities designed for traveling with children," Ukrzaliznytsia noted.

The total contract value is approximately UAH 6.5 billion, with funding provided by the state budget. Deliveries will take place in phases until May 2028.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine and Bulgaria have begun active preparations for the launch of a direct passenger rail service that will run through Romania.
