Aides to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, whose party was defeated in the recent parliamentary elections, are trying to take millions of dollars out of the country. Their actions may be an attempt of money laundering.

Hungary's Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar said this on Saturday, April 25.

According to him, Hungary's National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has suspended several large transfers linked to the circle of official Antal Rogán, who is called the curator of Orbán's media empire. The transfers were suspended after signals from banks that suspect these actions may be related to money laundering.

Magyar added that after the defeat of the Fidesz party in the elections, Orbán's allies began to sell off some media at a low price, in particular the Lounge Event Kft company, which is worth hundreds of billions of forints.

In addition, several Hungarian oligarchs have already taken their families out of the country. Some other influential oligarchic families have taken their children out of school and are organizing security for their departure from Hungary.

Magyar called on law enforcement agencies to detain the criminals and prevent them from escaping to countries from which extradition is not yet provided for before the formation of a new government.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, parliamentary elections were held in Hungary on April 12. The opposition Tisza party won the constitutional majority, and Orbán officially admitted his defeat.

Yesterday, April 25, Orbán announced his resignation from his parliamentary mandate, but expressed his willingness to continue leading the Fidesz party.
