In the inner circle of US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is increasingly being discussed as a potential candidate for the presidential election in 2028, as his influence in the administration has grown due to his active role in foreign policy decisions, loyalty to Trump and growing support among some supporters of the MAGA movement.

This is reported by the authors of the Politico portal.

According to the publication, Rubio, who was considered politically weakened after the unsuccessful presidential campaign in 2016, has recently strengthened his position in the Trump administration. His supporters in the White House consider it an advantage that he later joined Trump's political course, noting that the President has a positive attitude towards those who demonstrate commitment to his agenda.

"JD Vance is a fantastic Vice President, and Marco Rubio is a great Secretary of State," Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz said.

He added that since the 2016 campaign, Rubio "has embraced the MAGA path and has become one of the most dedicated allies and supporters of MAGA."

As Politico notes, Rubio has also strengthened his position by serving as Secretary of State and head of the National Security Council, which gives him constant access to the President and a say in key administration decisions.

"Because of that dual role, he has a lot of access and personal time with the President - and with MAGA. That's been a huge advantage for him," said former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

According to a CPAC poll, Rubio's support among potential Republican candidates has risen to 35%, up from 3% last year. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance maintains his lead at 53%.

A YouGov poll in April also showed Vance leading the Republican primary race with 63% support, while Rubio received 42%.

At the same time, Rubio himself has previously stated that he does not plan to run against Vance in the Republican primary.
