Ukraine is officially entering a new phase in the development of its "light" air defense capabilities by introducing a system for remotely controlling interceptor drones over long distances. Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov has announced this.
He noted that the development began a year ago through the Brave1 cluster, and today there are already confirmed results of targets being shot down at distances of hundreds and thousands of kilometers.
According to the minister, Ukraine has become the first country in the world to systematically scale up this technology. Fedorov emphasized that this establishes a completely new standard for air defense.
"The pilot is no longer tied to a specific location. The drone is in the sky—controlled from a secure environment in Kyiv, Lviv, or even abroad," explained the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
He added that this approach significantly increases interception efficiency and minimizes risks for the operators themselves.
Currently, more than ten Ukrainian manufacturers have already successfully integrated this solution into their designs. The minister emphasized that the development of innovations has a clear goal of protecting the skies.
"We are working to achieve the following goals: 100% detection and at least 95% neutralization of enemy air targets," summarized Mykhailo Fedorov, noting that the technology allows for the expansion of defense capabilities without being tied to specific sections of the front.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 30, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated that the first air defense unit, prepared by one of the companies participating in the experimental project, is already operational and is shooting down enemy targets.
