The richest businessman Akhmetov bought 21-room apartment in Monaco for half billion dollars

The richest businessman of Ukraine Rinat Akhmetov bought a huge five-level luxury apartment in Monaco in the most prestigious new residential project of the principality for USD 554 million, which makes the deal one of the largest in the history of sales of a single dwelling.

This is reported by Economic Pravda with reference to Bloomberg.

The report says that the 21-room waterfront property, purchased by the businessman's holding company, is located in the Mareterra district.

The new quarter, built on an alluvial territory, was opened by Prince Albert II in 2024 and has already attracted the attention of ultra-wealthy investors from around the world.

The apartment is located in the flagship building of Le Renzo and occupies about 2,500 square meters, not counting balconies and terraces overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

It also has a private pool, a jacuzzi and at least eight parking spaces.

Details of the sale, which was completed in 2024, are contained in the principality's property registers, as well as in a trove of emails and previous title deeds.

Akhmetov's holding company, System Capital Management, or SCM, confirmed that it had acquired the project, but declined to provide details about the property itself or its price.

"SCM's international investment portfolio has included a separate portfolio of premium real estate for over a decade, as has been publicly reported on several occasions," the company said in a statement. "Its assets include the Le Renzo project, which we invested in on the primary market in 2021."

The price tag would make the deal the largest known home sale in history, surpassing the recent sale of developer Nick Candy's Chelsea mansion for more than USD 350 million or the sale of a New York penthouse to hedge fund manager Ken Griffin for about USD 240 million.

Monaco, located on a rocky coast between France and Italy, has long been the world's most expensive real estate market due to its small size and tax haven status.

The Mareterra project has been under construction for more than a decade.

It includes 114 luxury villas, townhouses and apartments set around gardens, a harbour and a public promenade.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early March, Forbes updated its ranking of the world's richest people.

The list includes seven Ukrainian dollar billionaires as of March 2026.

The richest Ukrainian remained the owner of the DTEK and Metinvest groups, Rinat Akhmetov.

As of March 2026, his fortune is estimated at USD 7.8 billion, which is slightly less than a year earlier, when it was USD 7.9 billion.

In the global ranking, he ranks 472nd, while in 2025 he was in 390th position.
