A man wounded during a shooting in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv has died in the hospital. The total number of deaths from the incident has risen to seven.

This was reported by the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko.

The wounded man was in critical condition, doctors tried to save him, but he died in a medical facility.

Seven victims remain in the capital's hospitals after the incident, including one child.

Four adults are in intensive care units, and two more are in the trauma unit.

What is known about the shooting in the Holosiivskyi district

On April 18, a man opened fire in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, after which he locked himself in a supermarket with hostages. After 40 minutes of negotiations, special forces stormed and eliminated the attacker.

According to police, the shooter was a 58-year-old native of Moscow, who had served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 1992, retired in 2005, and had lived in Bakhmut since 2017.

Before the attack, he shot a neighbor with a traumatic weapon, returned to his apartment, took another weapon, opened fire on civilians, and also set fire to his own home.

The investigation established that the man had a registered weapon and in December 2025 applied for a permit extension; the medical certificate he submitted is now being checked.

The head of the Department of the Patrol Police of Ukraine, Yevhen Zhukov, has filed a report for dismissal after the shooting in Kyiv on April 18.
