The chairman of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Willie Walsh, has called on Europe to develop "carefully coordinated plans" in case of jet fuel restrictions due to the war in the Middle East

It was reported by the authors of the Euractiv portal.

According to Walsh, the International Energy Agency's estimate that Europe's jet fuel reserves could start to run out in six weeks is a sobering one.

"We also estimate that by the end of May, Europe may begin to see flight cancellations due to a lack of jet fuel. This is already happening in some parts of Asia," he said.

Walsh added that in the event of a jet fuel shortage, "it is important that the authorities have clearly agreed and coordinated plans in case it is necessary to introduce limits."

The projected shortage of aviation fuel is related to Iran's de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war between the US and Israel in late February, which has spread to the entire Middle East.
