Ukrainians have been warned about important changes in traveling abroad - some passports no longer allow crossing the state border. The Migration Service of the Dnipropetrovsk Region has reported this.
These are documents with an extended validity period, which were previously allowed to be used due to the full-scale war and limited work of consulates. The temporary permit was valid from the end of February 2022 until October 28, 2025. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine canceled it, and "extended" passports are no longer recognized as valid for international travel. Airlines and border guards may refuse to board a flight or enter other countries.
Who is affected?
The changes apply to adults and children whose passports contained information about family members under the old temporary procedure. First of all, this is relevant for millions of Ukrainians who live or work abroad.
A document must be replaced if it has expired, if it was extended under the old temporary procedure, or if it contains children or other family members under outdated rules. Citizens over 16 years of age receive a passport for 10 years, persons under 16 years of age - for 4 years.
Where to get a passport for travelling abroad?
A new passport can be issued at the embassies or consulates of Ukraine abroad, at the branches of the State Enterprise "Document", as well as at the units of the Migration Service in Ukraine or Administrative Service Centers. Ukrainians with an invalid passport abroad can apply to the nearest consulate for a temporary certificate to return home.
Earlier it became known that starting from 2026, the State Enterprise "Document" will start simultaneous issuance of ID cards and passports.
