The US Navy is beginning a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and will intercept ships heading to or leaving the strait, as well as inspect ships that paid Iran for passage. This was announced by US President Donald Trump on the Truth Social network on Sunday, April 12.
Trump said that during the negotiations with Iran, an agreement was reached on most issues, but the issue of the nuclear program remained unresolved. According to him, the US Navy is now beginning to block all ships without exception that try to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz.

"I have also instructed our Navy to identify and intercept every vessel in international waters that has paid dues to Iran. No one who pays illegal dues will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines that the Iranians have laid in the strait. Any Iranian who opens fire on us or on peaceful vessels will burn in hell! Iran knows better than anyone how to end this situation that has already devastated their country," the US president wrote.
Other countries should join the blockade to prevent Iran from profiting from illegal extortion, Trump stressed.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on April 12, the US Central Command announced the creation of a new safe route for ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
