President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska published Easter addresses to the citizens of Ukraine. In messages posted on Facebook, they mentioned St. Sophia of Kyiv and quoted the inscription: "God is in the midst of the city, and it will not be shaken."
Olena Zelenska cited this phrase as a symbol engraved above the Oranta in St. Sophia Cathedral. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that these words of "extraordinary power" have been felt by Ukrainians during more than 1,500 days of war.
The President's address discusses the duration and nature of the confrontation, which he described as a struggle that takes place not only on the front. "And this is so important today, when war is not only on the battlefield, but also a fierce battle of emotions, characters and spirit, truth against lies, faith against despair, hope against despair," Zelenskyy said.
He also noted the complexity of this period and mentioned the uncertainty of the future. The address speaks of "turbulence", when, in his words, "the world is flying into the abyss and no one knows what tomorrow will be like".
Separately, the President and the First Lady emphasized that Ukrainians have gone through the most difficult winter in history as a single community.
Zelenskyy expressed hope that the next Easter will be held in conditions of peace throughout Ukraine. He also noted that the desire is that "the Easter bell will not be disturbed by the alarm siren".
Recall that non-religious Ukrainians will celebrate Easter en masse - but not for the sake of faith. The research company Gradus found out the motives of those who do not associate themselves with any denomination, but do not miss one of the main holidays of the year.
