Special forces of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), as a result of a special operation in Odesa, detained a russian agent "red-handed" who tried to eliminate a high-ranking officer of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was outlined by the SSU press service, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The investigation established that on the day of the assassination attempt, the hitman with a pistol took up a position near the exit from the residential complex where the Ukrainian officer lives.
Feigning bicycle repair, the attacker, wearing a balaclava, waited for the appearance of a car driven by a serviceman.

When the car approached the exit, the agent threw the bicycle under the wheels of the car and tried to open fire on the driver.
"At this point, the killer was detained by the counterintelligence and special forces task force of the Center of Special Operations "A" of the SSU, which had been keeping the suspect under wraps for a long time and documented his every move," the report says.
According to the investigation, the enemy's task was carried out by a 37-year-old resident of one of the Balkan countries recruited by russian special services.
In February 2026, the foreigner arrived in Kyiv under the guise of a tourist, and later went to Odesa to fulfill a russian order.
After arriving in the port city, the agent received from the curator from the russian federation the geolocation of the cache, from which he took a pistol with a silencer and cartridges.
Next, the suspect tracked the main places of stay and routes of movement of the potential victim, after which he agreed with the russian special serviceman on the location of the planned assassination attempt.
For the purpose of conspiracy, the killer regularly changed the addresses of Odesa rented apartments and hotel rooms.
SSU investigators informed the foreigner of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 258 (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act) of the Criminal Code.
The perpetrator is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in late January, the SSU detained 3 russian FSB agents who were preparing terrorist attacks in the center of Odesa.
