Russian dictator vladimir putin's special envoy Kirill Dmitriev is in the United States and is meeting with representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump.
Reuters reports this, citing sources familiar with the circumstances of the visit.
According to the sources, the parties are discussing both a peace agreement on the russian-Ukrainian war and economic cooperation between the United States and russia.
The visit comes on the eve of the US decision to extend sanctions against russian oil, which expire on April 11, and may also be on the agenda.
Earlier, the United States issued a 30-day exemption for countries to buy russian oil and oil products currently stranded at sea. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called it a step toward stabilizing global energy markets, which have been shaken by the war in Iran.
The easing of sanctions followed a phone call between Trump and putin on March 9, and Dmitriev's subsequent visit to the United States to discuss the energy crisis with an American delegation that included Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russian dictator vladimir putin announced a so-called "Easter truce" that will allegedly last 32 hours.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the words of US Vice President J.D. Vance, who said the day before, that the peace talks between Ukraine and the aggressor country russia have been reduced to "bargaining for a few square kilometers".
