The United Kingdom has evacuated its military personnel from Iraq amid an escalation between the United States and US President Donald Trump's ultimatum, which announced the "death of civilization" if Iran does not unblock shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The British edition of The i Paper reported this, citing its own sources on Tuesday, April 7.
The unnamed source said that the UK Ministry of Defence has evacuated all personnel from Iraq. In addition, London has canceled the planned deployment of military personnel to conduct military exercises against ISIS in the country.
"It's simply about the risk factor on two fronts. Firstly, there is a threat to life, and secondly, there is a big strategic diplomatic risk that people who are practically integrated into the American system can become a target," the source said.
He added that the death of British soldiers in the war against Iran would lead to a change in the balance of power.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, a few hours ago, French media wrote that French President Emmanuel Macron called a meeting of the French Defence and National Security Council because of the situation around Iran.
Also yesterday, US President Donald Trump announced "the death of an entire civilization" if Iran does not reach a peace deal or unblocks navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
After Trump's statement, the Iranian authorities called on children and youth to go to power plants and bridges, to form "human chains" to protect against the strikes threatened by the US president the day before.
