The White House has published unique photographs taken by the crew of the Orion spacecraft during the Artemis II mission. The photographs, one of which was the first such shot in the history of mankind, were published on the official page of the institution on X (Twitter).

What is depicted in the photo?

The first photo shows the Earth setting behind the lunar horizon - such an angle has never been seen by mankind. The second photo captures a solar eclipse: the Moon completely covers the Sun, taken directly from space.

The mission launched in early April and became the first manned flight to the Moon since 1972. Four astronauts flew around the celestial body and began preparations for returning to Earth. The next step in the program will be to land a human directly on the Moon - NASA plans to do so in 2028.

It was previously reported that Artemis II astronauts set a record during their flight to the Moon.
