In April, Ukrainians - Naftogaz clients (the vast majority of them in the country - 98% of the total number of consumers) will still pay for gas at the current tariff - UAH 7.96 per cubic meter.
This is stated in the publication of OBOZ.UA, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
It is noted that the "Fixed" tariff plan, which determines the cost of natural gas for most Ukrainians, ends on April 30 - and so far, there has been no information about the extension of this period.
And although the government makes it clear that the current tariff will be maintained from May 1, a price increase seems inevitable in the future.
The OBOZ.UA material states that although a corresponding moratorium is in effect in Ukraine during martial law, both the government and Naftogaz understand that it will not be possible to maintain the current price in peacetime.
In addition, Ukraine's international partners, in particular the International Monetary Fund, are also talking about the need for a new tariff.
And therefore, according to OBOZ.UA sources, preparations for setting a new gas price for Ukrainians have already begun.
At the same time, it is emphasized that everything is currently at the "preparation for preparation" stage, that is, not the decision itself as such is being prepared, but its basis.
"In particular, calculations are underway as to what tariff Ukrainians will "pull". That is, in essence, people's solvency is being assessed. After all, if you simply set a high but economically justified price, you can not only not get the desired income, but also lose the one that you already have. Because people can simply stop paying," the analysts explained.
For her part, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, speaking about the negotiations with Naftogaz held in March, previously noted that maintaining a fixed gas price is an important task for the government, but she did not directly say that in May the tariff would be the same UAH 7.96 per cubic meter.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, gas prices for the population will remain unchanged from January 1, 2026.
