Some US politicians have questioned the mental state of US President Donald Trump over his insult-filled threat to Iran, in which he called the regime's representatives "crazy bastards" and mentioned Allah.
This is reported by The Guardian.
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F****n' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
Former loyal Trump associate Marjorie Taylor Greene said that everyone in the Trump administration who calls themselves Christian should "beg God for forgiveness" and intervene in the President's "madness."
She added that Trump's threats to bomb power plants and bridges are hurting the Iranian people - the very people Trump says he is liberating.
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Trump's tirade sounded like the words of a "crazy man." He wrote in X:
"Happy Easter, America. As you head off to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media. He's threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies. This is who he is, but this is not who we are. Our country deserves so much better."
Independent US Senator Bernie Sanders called it "dangerous and mentally unbalanced." He said on X:
"One month after starting the war in Iran, this is the statement of the President of the United States on Easter Sunday. These are the ravings of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced individual. Congress has got to act NOW. End this war."
Democratic Senator Chris Murphy also called it absolutely insane. He wrote on X:
"If I were in Trump's Cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers about the 25th Amendment. This is completely, utterly unhinged. He's already killed thousands. He's going to kill thousands more."
Using the 25th Amendment would mean declaring the President incapacitated, allowing the Vice President to become President.
Another Democrat, Ro Khanna, said that while Trump "is spewing insults and threatening war crimes," he is "failing" US troops in Iran, who continue to be under fire despite the President's claim that Iran's military capabilities have been destroyed. He said on NBC's "Meet the Press":
"We need to stop this war immediately. We need an immediate ceasefire. Iran, Israel and the United States need to stop bombing and reach a negotiated agreement." Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, who sits on the Armed Services Committee, asked Trump to "control his rhetoric." Also appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," Kaine said Trump's language was "shameful and childish" and increased the risk to US service members.
Jake Auchincloss, a Democratic representative and a veteran of the US Marine Corps, said that Iran realizes that, in fact, control of the Strait is of even greater strategic importance to it than the development of nuclear weapons.
"From a strategic point of view, this war turned out to be a failure," he added.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, attempts to establish a dialogue between the US and Iran have not yet yielded results - Tehran has refused to make concessions and has effectively blocked the negotiation process.
Iran also said that it is ready to fully restore the Strait of Hormuz only on one condition - after full compensation for the damage caused by the war.
