From April 4, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has relaxed currency restrictions in two areas.

This is stated in the NBU's message, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The first is permission to purchase foreign currency for the purpose of accumulation for further transfer to foreign medical institutions to pay for treatment.

Thus, an individual who needs treatment, or his relative, or a charitable foundation that collects funds for the treatment of this individual, is allowed, subject to compliance with certain conditions, to purchase foreign currency for the purpose of accumulation in an account with a Ukrainian bank until the necessary amount is fully formed to make payments with a medical institution abroad.

Such changes will not have a significant impact on the foreign exchange market of Ukraine.

The current norms of currency legislation allow individuals to purchase and transfer funds to pay for treatment in medical institutions of a foreign country, as well as additional costs associated with treatment, without any restrictions on the amount.

At the same time, until April 4, these norms did not allow purchasing foreign currency for the purpose of accumulating it until the required amount was fully formed.

The second is the fulfillment of the terms of the agreement on the establishment of the U.S.–Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund.

The National Bank has introduced appropriate conditions for making settlements in hryvnias and foreign currency on the territory of Ukraine, necessary for the activities of the U.S.–Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund, in accordance with the implementation of the provisions of the agreement concluded between the governments of Ukraine and the United States.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 2, the National Bank excluded the Bulgarian lev from the list of foreign currencies to which the official exchange rate of the hryvnia is set.
