As a result of negotiations in Syria, a decision was made to resume work of embassies in Kyiv and Damascus. During the meeting, they discussed security issues, logistics development and food security.

This was reported by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

According to the Ukrainian minister, with his Syrian counterpart Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, they discussed a number of issues and initiatives, primarily security ones.

"The security of Europe and the Middle East are closely linked. We will continue to cooperate to achieve lasting peace for our peoples," he said.

In addition, among the topics of discussion was the development of trade and maritime routes, which have significant potential for deepening economic cooperation.

"We agreed to resume work of embassies in Kyiv and Damascus in the near future - this is an important step in strengthening our partnership," he said.

According to the minister, Ukraine is ready to contribute to food security, including through initiatives such as "Grain from Ukraine" to support stability in the region. Sybiha added that bilateral trade volumes have already increased ninefold since the signing of the Joint Communiqué on the restoration of diplomatic relations.

"We also discussed humanitarian and educational cooperation. Many Syrian students have studied and continue to study in Ukraine - this is a solid foundation on which we intend to build our partnership," he added.

As a reminder, on April 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Syria and met with President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The discussions also mentioned the russian war in Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, last year, Ukraine and Syria restored diplomatic relations, the Presidents met for the first time in 15 years.
