Russian propaganda has launched an information campaign to justify the systematic shelling of Zaporizhzhia. This is stated in a message by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Hostile propaganda resources are massively disseminating a statement by an alleged prisoner of war, who claims that there are "almost no civilians left in the city" and that there are "more military than civilians on the streets."

According to the Center, in fact, these statements are untrue and are used by the aggressor country russia to provide information cover for attacks - any shelling is presented as attacks on "military targets." Instead, it is emphasized that Zaporizhzhia is a large Ukrainian city where civilians continue to live. Hospitals, municipal infrastructure, enterprises, and educational institutions are functioning there.

"It is also important that the 'testimony' of a prisoner of war is used to promote this narrative. Such sources cannot be considered objective: prisoners are under the full control of the party that holds them and give comments under pressure. The use of prisoners of war for propaganda purposes is a violation of international humanitarian law," the Center adds.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Center for Countering Disinformation denied the fake about the UAE's alleged refusal from Ukrainian anti-drone systems.
