Russia, China, and France opposed a draft UN resolution that envisaged the possibility of using force to restore free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The document, initiated by the Persian Gulf countries, proposed to give states the right to use "all necessary means" to counter Iran's attempts to block this strategic route. It was reported by The New York Times.

Due to the divergence of positions of the great powers, the negotiations reached a deadlock during closed consultations.

The French side, in particular President Emmanuel Macron, called calls for the forceful opening of the strait unrealistic. Paris argues its position with the significant resources of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the high risk of uncontrolled escalation. According to experts, an attempt to resolve the energy crisis by military means without taking into account the political root causes can only worsen the security situation in the Persian Gulf region.

The current crisis has effectively halted Tehran's longstanding diplomatic efforts to build relations in the region. Even traditional mediators, such as Oman and Qatar, claim that international diplomacy has been seriously damaged. At the same time, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that Tehran, together with Oman, is developing its own special protocol to control the transit of ships.

Despite the Iranian side's assurances that these measures are aimed solely at security and improving the service, the United States and other countries of the international community question the legitimacy of such claims to control the international strait. The situation remains tense, as the parties cannot find a compromise between guaranteeing freedom of navigation and avoiding a direct military clash.

We would like to remind you that US President Donald Trump is ready to end the war against Iran even if the Strait of Hormuz remains partially blocked. This option is seen as a way to avoid prolonging the conflict.
