On April 2, the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court announced the decision in the case of former head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov, confirming his six-year prison sentence. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office reported this.
How much did Nasirov get?
Roman Nasirov was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - abuse of power or position. In addition to imprisonment, he was fined UAH 17,000 and banned from holding positions in state authorities and state-owned enterprises for three years. The period of pre-trial detention was included in the sentence.
The court partially upheld the defense's appeals, excluding the testimony of one of the witnesses from the evidence base. In another part, the HACC upheld the decision. The ruling came into force upon its announcement, but may be appealed to the Supreme Court within three months.
The essence of Nasirov's case
Roman Nasirov was suspected of receiving a bribe of UAH 722 million from businessman Oleh Bakhmatiuk. According to the investigation, he received a part of the bribe worth more than EUR 13 million through a relative to the accounts of a controlled company registered in the British Virgin Islands. He was arrested in October 2022 and released on bail of UAH 55 million in May 2024.
The case lasted for years and was accompanied by high-profile scandals. During his first detention in 2017, Nasirov claimed to be seriously ill and was admitted to a state hospital in FeofaniIa - NABU detectives could not get into the facility and detain him for a long time. When he was finally brought to court, he appeared at the hearing wrapped in a checkered blanket - this image became one of the most famous memes on the Ukrainian Internet.

The court passed the initial verdict on October 31, 2025. At the stage of court arguments, Nasirov voluntarily mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, however, the Military Law Enforcement Service later canceled the order on his mobilization.
