The Canadian government has decided to extend the Canada–Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET), which grants Ukrainians the right to legal residence and employment in the country. This was officially announced by Canadian Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab.
Noting that Ukrainian citizens who arrived under this program will receive an additional year to apply for an extension of their work permits. Such measures are aimed at ensuring stability and support for Ukrainian families seeking protection from war.
The new rules apply to Ukrainians and their family members who arrived in Canada no later than March 31, 2024.
At the same time, the relevant ministry clarified that those CUAET permit holders who did not have time to arrive by March due to delays in making decisions, but received permission to enter by the end of 2024, also have the right to extend preferential conditions. Thus, the Canadian authorities are expanding the circle of persons who can take advantage of simplified adaptation and stay procedures in the country during the next year.
