The governor of the temporarily occupied part of the Donetsk Region Denis Pushilin has actually admitted that his key promises to restore water supply were a lie. This is stated in a message by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC).
In the past, the russian occupation administration has systematically promoted the idea that a stable water supply would allegedly be possible only after the occupiers seized Sloviansk, through which the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal passes. This was presented as the main, albeit unlikely, "plan" to resolve the water crisis.
Now, as the Center emphasizes, the rhetoric is changing: Pushilin claims that the Ukrainian Armed Forces "mined the canal" and that even after its alleged capture by the aggressor country russia, Ukraine will allegedly obstruct repair work to "harm civilians." The occupation authorities are unable to meet the basic needs of the population, but are persistently trying to convince people that Ukraine is to blame for everything, the Center adds.
"It is characteristic that such statements appear against the backdrop of the destruction of the infrastructure of the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal in the unoccupied territory of the Donetsk Region by the Russian army. In this way, Russian propaganda is trying to create an informational cover for its own actions," the Center emphasizes.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, russian propagandists intensified an information operation aimed at disrupting the evacuation of civilians from the frontline territories of Ukraine.
