US President Donald Trump has said that Iran has supported most of the provisions of the American peace plan to end the war. This refers to 15 points that Washington handed over to Tehran through the mediation of Pakistan, CNN reports.
According to Trump, the Iranian side has already responded to most of the proposals and generally agrees with them, but the United States plans to put forward several additional conditions.
"They gave us most of the points. Why wouldn’t they? They’re agreeing with us on the plan. We asked for 15 things, and for the most part, we’re going to be asking for a couple of other things," he said.
The American leader also said that Iran had handed over oil shipments to the United States as a sign of seriousness of intentions. According to him, we are talking about dozens of tankers, the shipment of which should begin in the near future.
"They gave us 20 boatloads of oil that starts being shipped tomorrow. We’re having very good meetings, both directly and indirectly, and I think we’re getting a lot of very important points," Trump said.
He added that the negotiations between the US and Iran - both direct and indirect - are going well and are already yielding tangible results. According to the sources, the plan may include limiting Iran's defense capabilities, refusing to support allied armed groups and recognizing Israel's right to exist.
As a reminder, the United States is considering the option of capturing key Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
